While Bearing Sorrows

This is a very hard part of Christ's life to paint for me. I wanted to convey the idea that He suffered in more ways than just physically on the cross or from the lashings and beatings of the soldiers, or from the crown of thorns. I wanted to avoid gore, but at the same time not ignore the reality of it. It's tender, trying to paint something so significant that runs so deep into my heart. But this brings me back to the first painting I uploaded. The beauty and glory of Jesus Christ, for which I am most grateful, is not so much the suffering and death, but the triumph OVER those things! I know He lives and because of this triumph, I will too.
